Bummer, it’s Monday and it’s raining… again… I need a little picker-upper, something exciting and fun to make it all better! So, who’s up for a little contest? Cool round shape, flat surface nice hole in the middle, possibilities are endless! Blank CDs are the perfect object for an avid doodler (and if you don’t have the nice printable ones with white face, just do it on the other, shiny side with a permanent marker or even a nail (like this guy did):

And here’s some more inspiration for you from Kristofer Ström:
The prize would be a doodled-upon (by yours truly) rock, kinda like these:
It’s easy on the eyes and could be useful as paperweight, weapon of mass distraction or, if worse comes to worse, throwing (into the water) stone. Deadline - in 2 weeks (which makes it another Monday, August 12th). Send your entries (or rather photos/scans of them) to:
•? doodlage@doodlage.com with your name or alias and link to your blog/site/contact page, so I can identify you in case of a win.
• Another option is to post a submission in your very own blog and leave a link to it in the comments right here.
• Last but not least - I’ve created a flickr group, called, appropriately CDoodles, which you can join and post your creations into.
There are really no rules or regulations for this one - I will be the one and only judge and dictator (since the prize will come from me, I think it’s only fair). I will show all the submissions with links to their author’s pages, so if nothing else, you’ll get some extra exposure
Please, spread the word, Digg it, Stumble it, do whatever it takes, so more people can participate. We are not? afraid? of little competition, are we? If all goes well, it will be the first in a series of contests (see, I even added a category for that :)).

Want me to post this on Doodle Week blog?
July 28, 2008 @ 4:16 pm@ Claire. But of course!
July 28, 2008 @ 4:33 pmThat is a crazy CD! Love it!
Stumbled this post! We’ll see if I can get to doodling on a CD… I have a couple meetings this week so I think I can have a go!
Stumbled!
July 28, 2008 @ 7:01 pmOh, der, I already said I stumbled it. Well, just didn’t want you to miss that part.
July 28, 2008 @ 7:01 pmhow about posting a link here in the comments to the image?

July 28, 2008 @ 8:28 pmCan I include a template of a blank cd for people to either print out and doodle on or doodle on it online?
July 29, 2008 @ 9:37 amHi Claire!
July 29, 2008 @ 10:01 amThanks for your offer and a wonderful idea about a template. I only thought of actual CDs, but you’re an old pro here, I’m just getting started
Do you want me to email the templates to you? Or maybe I’ll find something online and send you a link. How’s that?
Hi Lauren,
Two thank-you-s for stumbling
And please, do use your meetings wisely
Looking forward to seeing your cdoodles.
July 29, 2008 @ 10:10 amHi Nicci,
July 29, 2008 @ 10:12 amWelcome to Doodlage, and thanks for being the first brave participant! Love your CDs, really neat doodling and certainly with “character”
I have found one template, but send me what you have found too, that would be great
I just have lots of ideas floating around this noggin of mine
I know quite a few of the doodlers love mandalas? so this idea should really appeal to them.
July 29, 2008 @ 10:23 amI have put the competition post up at doodle week blog, let me know if it reads okay
Doodle Week post
July 30, 2008 @ 5:45 amClaire,
Thank you so much! The post is wonderful, let’s hope it’ll attract more people (the more the merrier, right?
And your idea with a template is excellent, I actually doodled on one yesterday, have to admit, it’s much easier than the shiny side of a cd, that’s for sure. I’ll post the template here too.

July 30, 2008 @ 8:49 amSo, are you gonna doodle for us too?
p.s. I spent half an hour yesterday following Olga’s adventures
i found you via aerten’s blog…and have really been enjoying what you are doing here.
i linked to you on my blog. hope you don’t mind.
thanks for elevating the doodle to its true artform status!
July 30, 2008 @ 9:14 am~sueokieffe
I think we should get a few folks joining in! I am definitely doodling something
Then again I don’t want many people to join in, because I wants the rock!
Olga is an entertaining gal/bra aint she
July 30, 2008 @ 9:17 amHello Sue, welcome to Doodlage!
Of course I don’t mind, and I added your site to my blogroll as well. If you ever feel like guest-doodling here, we’d be very happy to have you. Just fill in the contact form and we’ll set up a login for you.
July 30, 2008 @ 10:00 amClaire,
Yeah, at first, I was intrigued by her Russian name, but then I discovered that she’s quite a world traveler
p.s. *wispering* you do your CDoodle, and I’ll see what I can do to get you a “special prize from the judges” for all your help
July 30, 2008 @ 10:09 amHaha! It actually is the name of the bra, it says Olga on the label
I have got a few people interested so far, waiting for the other two from the Doodle Week blog to post about it too
*Whispers, WOOT WOOT!
July 30, 2008 @ 6:00 pmI think I may have to be unoriginal here and try something with a nail or tac, but who knows, I may go out on my own limb too. I like this idea.
July 31, 2008 @ 10:53 amOk I have given in and gave it a shot. I also joined the group and submitted my entry there as well.
Thanks!
July 31, 2008 @ 12:58 pmHi Chica, welcome to Doodlage!!!

July 31, 2008 @ 2:39 pmLOVE your entry! Nicely done! I think I’ll try scratching next too. I also got some fancy “souffle” markers that have this “raised” effect. That will be my next project
Keep checking back for more info
RaShell: Thanks! I think I may even have a scratch at another, just for kicks.
July 31, 2008 @ 4:54 pmI’m in and already join CDoodles flickr group
August 1, 2008 @ 11:36 am[...] It might be a bit offtopic, but I decided to add a doodles category to the blog, for now mainly to post my entry(entries?) to this fine contest on the doodlage! blog. [...]
August 2, 2008 @ 3:00 amThanks for the contest, RaShell! It was a lot of fun, and I was in desperate need for an idea on what to put on that CD, anyway! XD
Contest Entry
August 2, 2008 @ 3:09 amHi Ben,
Love your entry!!! Very-very cool. The “grunge” version is photoshopped at the end, isn’t it (I’m all for it, I’m just curious)? Anyhow, both look very good, thanks for doing it and sharing with us, and keep in touch
August 5, 2008 @ 9:08 amhahaha i never knew that these cds could be in a contest, i made them a long time ago just because i wanted to make something with my favorite music cds

these are my favorites but there are other ones on my flickr.
August 7, 2008 @ 12:02 pmwell thanks and bye
What a great idea! I’ve only just come across your blog via Claire. I think I’m far too inexperienced a doodler to handle a CD, real or virtual, but I might have a go as your rocks really rock!
August 7, 2008 @ 8:44 pmHi Black Cat,
Welcome to Doodlage!!! But of course you have to try your hand at CDoodling! It’s really fun! And don’t miss an upcoming post with pictures of the prizes really soon
August 8, 2008 @ 10:23 amThanks, RaShell!
Yes, the second one is photoshopped (actually, gimped :D), though not much. I didn’t want to take away the focus from the text, and also had to keep it simple in order to make sure I can reuse the background for other CDs in this “series”.
Sadly time’s something I simply don’t have at the moment, so I’ll have to do the rest after the contests ends - but as far as I understand you’re planning on keeping the group running afterwards, anyway?
