Hello everyone,? my name is? Alex and I am currently? going through? a mid-life doodling crisis at the age of 19. Though I was once an avid doodler, today I find myself drifting away from the fantasy land of doodlage. I must say, that keeping up with this website has made me miss my glory days! As for many others, high school was the perfect opportunity to make the best possible use of an ink pen… So English class soon became my finest hour of inspiration, due to the utter boredom I was forced to undergo. Following the strict guidelines of my profound philosophy (turn off brain and draw), I doodled away the hours. Now I really don’t doodle that much, since most of my sketches eventually end up being covered by pastel or charcoal during college work. But it’s time to get back to doodling. In order to brush up on it, I went to my old high school doodles for inspiration.
The usual drawing subject was an animal, my hand, or the angry chemistry teacher staring at my hand gestures that seemed to be tracing her chin line on a scrap of paper. I must say that drawing some of my teachers was by far the most adventurous doodling I’ve done…
On other occasions, I took pleasure in creating abstract doodles. I would create sloppy geometric shapes with overlaying patterns and crisscrossing lines. Eventually the patterns started to group into visible objects and would usually revolve around one central element, like a rose or a coffee mug. Leaving room for color, I used highlighters to add the finishing touches.
Well that’s enough nostalgia for now. I’m off to find a piece of paper and a trusty pen. Happy doodling!
