just monkeying around…

My fellow CDoodlers, here’s the first update on our little contest:

The CDoodles Flickr group is gathering new members every day. YOU? (here I stick a big dirty finger in your face, just like uncle Sam on one of those war-time posters) SHOULD BE? NEXT! We even added the little widget that shows the most recent submissions for your viewing convenience.

Our dear friend Claire aka Stick Figure Grrl? (from Doodling Week) and Crpitt, posted invitation to participate on her blogs, and came up with a simple=genius? idea of paper template to use, in case you don’t want to mess with actual discs and permanent markers. So, here you can download a PDF and print it out or digi-doodle on a smaller JPG from here in the application of you liking.I, myself, started by doodling little cds on a simple piece of paper and then filling them with doodling ideas. Kinda redundant, but I like to sketch almost as much as I like to doodle, so forgive me this little weakness.

Then I moved on to almost “real deal” and doodled full-scale on a paper template:

Next stop - an actual CD, hopefully the one with white face, cause I have to admit, I tried doing it on the shiny side, and it is not as easy as I thought. I will try scratching, like Chica did here, or even unleash the power open my brand new fancy-shmancy Souffle Pens that should leave “raised” impression on anything, including plastic and metal. The photo on the package actually has a disc… with doodles!!!

Don’t forget to join us in this exercise of creativity. It’s free, it’s fun and it’s good for you, if I say so myself!

p.s. I found the rock that will soon become the main prize for the winner of CDoodling contest. Might even show the progress photos of me, doodling on it one day! So, stay tuned, and don’t forget to spread the word!!!

p.p.s. Especially for Claire and her adventurous friend Olga_The_Traveling_Bra:

Hahaha, love the bra one. I’m using a metal-tipped mechanical pencil (Quicker Clicker from Pentel) to draw on the shiny side of the CD. The impressions it makes are not as deep, but it’s easier to control than a pushpin or a unbent paper clip (also tried those).

I’m workin’ on mine! It’s hard to let my critical side go an just let my hand wander. I don’t make a good artist; I want things to be too perfect.

    Lauren,

Trust me, I’m the same way. My “normal” way of drawing involves a lot of tracing and erasing, until I deem the thing “perfect”. I usually engage in somewhat backward doodling while “watching” TV. For the most part I look at my lap, and once in a while, for distraction, I glance up on the screen ;)
