Hello there! Many thanks to Leo/RaShell for letting me be part of this awesome site.
I’m Sherrie Thai, the graphic designer and illustrator of my own venture, Shaire Productions. Sketching has always been a huge part of my art (and life)–as subconscious expression, use in final art, conceptualization, or as its own art-form. My sketches have been described by others as intense, odd, insane, neurotic, but in the end, it’s part of me and I love creating, so hope you enjoy them!
Here’s an example of one of my doodles. My definition of doodling is just “subconscious drawing”–where you’re not thinking about anything in particular–just letting the pen flow. I’ve been doing a lot of abstract decorations with human forms lately. . .
Faces & Decor: From the Sketchbook

I’ve realized that the sketches could be put to use in final artwork. Below is an piece of abstract decor (cloud/wave elements) that I placed in a piece called Contemplation (more about this here). The design can be found in the background–faded and meshed together in Photoshop.
Contemplation: Use of Sketches in Final Art

As a graphic designer, it’s advantageous to work out ideas beforehand, whether it’s a rough concept, layout, or logo. I find it easier (and faster) to come up with multiple ideas in the initial stage when the drawings are small as it’s mostly conceptual and not detail-oriented. This sample is a collection of initial sketches for a typographic calender. Most of my layout sketches are dime-sized.
Calender Sketches: Progression of Ideas

I love sketching and drawing so much that the style from my sketchbooks has found a little place in my fine arts spectrum.
